Edinburgh crowds to be CCTV stars at the Fringe

Footage from CCTV cameras will turn crowds thronging the streets of Scotland's capital during the Festival into the stars of a major new show.

Two artists plan to use footage from the city's huge network of cameras to create a video installation after winning a share of the Scottish Government's Festivals Expo fund.

Jenny Hogarth and Kim Coleman will mix live and pre-recorded feeds from the cameras with specially-created footage of stage-managed performances.

The "digital camera obscura", one of three major visual art projects the government is funding this summer, is aimed at capturing the "intricate carnival" of Edinburgh during festival time.
