Driver's car is towed from outside hospital

A young motorist returned from a hospital appointment to find his car had been towed away - after parking in a bay with an illegible warning.

Scott Sawers, a 21-year-old customer service worker for East Coast railways, had paid to park his car in Keir Street to attend an appointment in nearby Lauriston Place. When he returned, parking enforcers pointed to what used to be a "solo motorcycle bay" marking on the cobbles. However, this had become so badly worn that it could not be read.

City council officials today insisted the markings were "adequate".
