Deadline set for Fountainbridge site

A closing date of April 24th has been set for bids to develop on a key piece of land at Fountainbridge.

The Freer Street site came on to the market after the collapse of the council-backed Buredi Fountainbridge development.

The company had intended to build 170 flats and an office complex on the site of the former Fountain Brewery social club but its vision died when Bank of Scotland declined to provide it with further funding.

KPMG, the firm's administrator, brought the 2.38 acre site on to the market recently and agents say there has been a lot of interest.

James Thomson, director of business space at selling agent DTZ, said: "The site has planning consent for 220,000 square feet of high-quality residential apartments and office space.

"We have seen a lot of interest in the site, not only as a result of its current mixed-use planning consent, but also due to its potential for a range of uses including offices, student residential, and leisure, subject to necessary consents."
