Dawe blasts city funding

posted 17 Aug 2009, 04:39 by David Rintoul

City leader Jenny Dawe has admitted it was "disappointing" that two parts of Edinburgh failed to win Scottish Government regeneration funding.

The council had applied for funding for Leith Walk, Tollcross and Portobello from the Scottish Government's Town Centre Regeneration Fund.

But Portobello was the only of the council's bids to be awarded funding after securing £582,014, while Parc was awarded £2 million for Craigmillar.

Cllr Dawe said: "It is disappointing that the Leith Walk and Tollcross applications were not successful but officers are already working on options for submissions for the £20m funding available in round two."

She said it was "great news" that Parc had secured money.

Improvements to Portobello are to be carried out by March. Cllr Dawe said they would "greatly enhance the attractiveness of the town centre and vitality and viability of local shops".
