Cyclist in hospital after taxi collision

A woman cyclist was struck by a taxi today in Marchmont and left in a serious condition in hospital.

The 33-year-old victim was involved in a collision with the taxi at around 12.30am this morning as the vehicle drove onto Melville Drive.

Police said the woman is currently being treated at the Western General Hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

Police are now appealing for witnesses who can assist with their enquiries.

A police spokesman said: "This incident has left the woman with serious injuries and enquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding it.

"Anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident is asked to contact police immediately."
