Curtain falls on Cineworld festival role

The Edinburgh International Film Festival has dropped Cineworld as its flagship venue.

The festival, in June, will instead host most of its screenings at the Filmhouse and Cameo cinemas. Teviot Row student union will replaced the Point Hotel as festival's hub.

Other venues will include church halls and schools, with the Festival Theatre also expected to be used.

A spokeswoman said: "Cineworld was a venue partner rather than a cash sponsor of EIFF and the fact it will not be a venue this year has no impact on festival revenue.

"The ambition this year is to refresh the festival's engagement with the city and this will mean that there will be a different mix of locations for 2011.

"As part of that process some new venues have been announced - such as Teviot as an exciting new hub for industry and public audiences - and some, such as Cineworld, won't be part of the festival this year."
