Curtain drawn on former cinema demolition plans

A controversial proposal to demolish the auditorium of the former Odeon in Clerk Street is set to be refused by planners.

The scheme would see developer Duddingston House Properties (DHP) knock down the B-listed art deco auditorium, restore the front part of the building and convert it into a hotel.

But city planners have said the auditorium is economically viable, is of special architectural interest and that DHP's valuation was unrealistic.
