Create your own country

A FIESTA atmosphere is promised on Saturday as girls and young women are invited to mark International Women's Day at St Thomas of Aquins School in Chalmers Street.

The day of celebration, organised by the YWCA, will give youngsters a chance to imagine creating and running their own country and deciding its values and traditions.

They will be encouraged to imagine the country's heroines and what they would have achieved. The event will include music and dance.

Sabrina Haynes, YWCA volunteer, said: "This is going to be a great day, we have three great tutors working on drama, dance and creative arts ready to help girls create the kind of country that they would like to live in.

"Girls will get the opportunity to create their own flag, costumes, dances and heroines drawing from their own experiences and using the kind of music and styles of dance they enjoy."

The event is open to girls aged from 11 to 18 and runs from 10am until 4pm. Admission is free.

Book a place by contacting Joan Bree on 0131-225 7592 or e-mail Joan.
