Council red faces as Usher Hall system fails

Fringe performers had to take to the streets to sell their own tickets after more box office problems at the Usher Hall.

The city council has apologised to performers after a booking website and telephone system failed to work. The setback occurred as a two-year refurbishment programme approaches completion.

But producers of around 16 Fringe shows are angry that the fiasco has resulted in lost ticket sales for performances at St Mark's Artspace, on Castle Terrace, through the hall.

The latest problem comes just a month after a scramble to book tickets for Billy Connolly caused the system to crash at the Usher Hall.

But council bosses said the latest problem was not connected to this. The telephone line was repaired yesterday but the website is likely to take a few more days.
