City to host director of the year awards

posted 29 Dec 2009, 03:43 by David Rintoul

A prestigious awards ceremony for directors is to be held in the Capital.

The Institute of Directors (IoD) Scotland has announced that its annual director of the year event will be held at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in March.

It will be the first time the event has moved away from Glasgow since its inception in 2004.

Nominees for the awards – which include a specific category for Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders – will be announced at the end of January next year.

Launched in 2004, the awards recognise and celebrate exceptional achievements of individuals at director level within the private, public and voluntary organisations across Scotland.

David Watt, executive director of IoD Scotland, said: "We've enjoyed five superb years in Glasgow and felt it was time to let another city host what is always one of the key dates on the Scottish business calendar."

"The Sheraton is a superb choice of venue to host the Director of The Year Awards and will provide a first-class setting for what I'm sure will be another fantastic event."
