City's giant screen goes interactive

The audience at the Big Screen in Festival Square will be able to enjoy the latest in interactive technology.

In a UK first, the screen will host a free game called Hungry Hungry Eat Head, commissioned by the council, on 15 August.

By relaying a live overhead camera feed on the screen, the effect is that of a "magic mirror" where the viewer's own reflection shifts and changes.

Markers will be printed and given out and by holding one up players will find their heads replaced by brightly patterned characters.

Edible objects will also enter the space, falling from the sky or spat from blooming flowers which, if eaten, will have a knock-on effect on other users.

Councillor Steve Cardownie, festivals and events champion, said: "It's fantastic news that Edinburgh's Big Screen is to be the first in the UK to demonstrate this exciting technology."
