Capital hairdressers will compete against the best in Scotland, after reaching the finals of a prestigious competition.

Colin McAndrew and Kym Wyser, of the city salon Medusa, are among the six teams competing for the Scottish Hairdresser of the Year Award – the only one from Edinburgh. If successful, they will go on to compete in the 25th anniversary of the British competition, run by Hairdressers Journal International.

The pair were asked to submit four images showing their flair and creativity, which will be judged by industry experts and journalists.

Jayne Lewis-Orr, editor-in-chief of the journal, said: "Colin and Kym are very worthy finalists."

Colin, owner of Medusa, on Bread Street, added: "This year has been an incredible one for us. To be recognised by your peers as being one of the country's leading hairdressers and being involved in the awards is both a wonderful feeling and a great achievement."
