City chiefs eye fake grass plan for Meadows

EDINBURGH Council is reportedly looking into the use of synthetic surfaces on the Meadows following fears that the site is being overused.

Save Our Meadows campaigners have vowed to fight plans to install an artificial surface on a large swathe of the Meadows.

They are also demanding a complete ban on events at the beauty spot, after a series of events left the surface muddy.

A spokesman for Save Our Meadows, Chris Wigglesworth, said: "The overuse of the site for commercial benefit does not sit comfortably with the aim of preserving the Meadows as a recreational ground for the citizens of Edinburgh, as well as for our visitors."
