Choose your muse in the big contest

Two Capital arts organisations in the running to win vital Lottery cash are calling on the public to get behind their campaigns.

Dance Base and the Scottish Poetry Library are through to the semi-finals of the National Lottery Awards 2009. The Grassmarket-based dance centre and the library, which is based just off the Royal Mile, are competing in the Best Arts Project category.

Edinburgh residents are now being urged to show their support by casting a vote and helping the projects make it through to the next stage of the awards.

The winning projects, across the seven award categories, will receive national recognition on a special BBC TV show later this year, and a £2,000 cash prize to spend on their project.

This year's awards are supported by television and radio presenter Jackie Brambles.

She said: "Please get behind your local projects and vote so that they get the credit and thanks they deserve."

Voting for the semi-finals starts today and ends at midday on Friday 10th July. For further information, and to register a vote, go to www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards
