CCTV footage of missing woman released

posted 24 Aug 2009, 03:04 by David Rintoul

Police investigating the disappearance of a woman more than a year ago have released CCTV images of what are believed to be her last known movements.

Samantha Wright, 25, was last seen at the Jobcentre in High Riggs on 12 June last year, though she was not reported missing until February, after failing to contact her family.

The images were discovered in the course of the police investigation, and were taken from CCTV cameras operating in the east end of the city centre.

They show Ms Wright walking in Hanover Street at the junction with Rose Street at 8.55pm on June 12, 2008, with a man who has yet to be identified.

Chief Inspector Paul Bullen said: "After many months of extensive enquiries and detailed searches, we still have no evidence as to Samantha's whereabouts or her welfare.

"We are extremely keen to speak to the man pictured with Samantha in the footage, and would ask him to contact police immediately. We believe he could be a significant witness, and may have information about Samantha's demeanour and intentions on that evening."

Anyone with any information as to the identity of this male is asked to contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131 or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
