Call for new Gaelic school

posted 25 Nov 2010, 17:23 by David Rintoul

Parents have backed the creation of a dedicated Gaelic-speaking school in Edinburgh.

Comann nam Pàrant, the Edinburgh Gaelic parents group, rejected extending provision at the existing unit at Tollcross or creating a second unit in Leith.

Expanding Tollcross would be only a short-term solution and wouldn't meet demand, they said, while uptake would be low at Leith and could create division with non-Gaelic pupils. They feel a new school would raise attainment and act as a showcase for the rest of Scotland.
