A new independent bookshop is set to be opened near to the homes of JK Rowling and Ian Rankin.

The Edinburgh Bookshop will open on Bruntsfield Place on Saturday.

It attempts to revive the original Edinburgh Bookshop, which was based on George Street for many years.

Co-owner Vanessa Robertson, who also owns The Children's Bookshop on the same street, said: "In these recessionary days people are still reading books, and we want to provide a first-class service for those people.

"We are enormously proud to be opening a new bookshop in what is, after all, a Unesco World City of Literature – and just round the corner from some of the most renowned authors in the UK, if not the world."
