Staff at the Halifax Bank of Scotland in Edinburgh have raised £680 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF), the nation's heart charity.

More than 100 members of staff from HBOS at Princes Exchange on Earl Grey Street held a One Big Quiz night last week, part of a nationwide event which is anticipated to raise more than £50,000 in total for the BHF.

The money raised will go towards funding more BHF Heart Nurses across communities in the UK, who provide invaluable care and support to patients and families suffering from the disease.

Craig Gardner, senior accountant from HBOS, Princes Exchange, said: "The One Big Quiz event was fantastic fun for all involved and we're delighted we've raised this money for the BHF.

"Heart disease is still the UK's single biggest killer and touches most of us at some time in our lives and so we recognise the importance of doing our bit to help the BHF support and care for all those affected."

The event was part of a two-year fundraising campaign with the BHF which is Lloyds Banking Group's Charity of the Year until July 2010.
