Autumn start for Usher Hall landscaping

Landscaping work around the Usher Hall is due to get under way in the autumn.

Officials will select the winning firm for the contract when the tender process closes later this month.

The A-listed concert venue is undergoing a much-delayed refurbishment but it is due to be completed by August.

The landscaping work has a budget of £3.9m and will involve sprucing up the land around the Lothian Road concert hall. The cost of the project, including a glass-covered extension of the building, was originally put at no more than £9m in 2002 but costs have continued to escalate, despite council chiefs "pegging" the refit price at £19m in 2006.
