The Royal Company of Archers competed for the Silver Arrow in the Meadows yesterday.

Members of the Company, who form the Queen's ceremonial bodyguards in Scotland, compete for the centuries-old archery trophy every year.

The contest, which is only open to members of the Royal Company, is believed to date back to 1603. The archers shoot over a distance of 180 yards, aiming to hit two targets, or "clouts".
