A chance to be part of literary history

Handwritten letters by Charles Darwin, Jane Austen and Sir Walter Scott are among 100 manuscripts being offered for "adoption" as part of a library fundraising drive.

The documents, housed at the National Library of Scotland, form part of the John Murray Archive, one of the world's top literary collections.

Now members of the public are being offered the chance to adopt 100 of the archive's treasures, ranging in value from £500 to £10,000.
