The grand old lady of Princes Street is to be given a multi- million pound makeover to propel her into the ranks of the world's most luxurious hotels.
Celebrity chefs and a personal concierge will be part of the service at the Caledonian as hotel chain Hilton plans to convert it to its luxury Waldorf Astoria brand. It will be the first time the 127-year-old American name has come to Scotland.
Hilton, which runs the Edinburgh hotel under a long-term management agreement, will invest £14 million to refurbish every room as it seeks to attract a new breed of mega-rich experience seeking traveller.
