1816: There was another 'Meal Riot' in Dundee, described by Sheriff Duff as "one of the greatest in modern times in the country." This followed meal riots in 1733 and 1812 when corn merchants exported grain at a higher price and refused to sell it cheaper locally.

The aim of the Society is to increase the recognition of Leith Links as the home of the earliest recorded rules of golf and one of the game's prominent early locations

Return challenge match versus Bruntsfield Short Hole at Bruntsfield - 24th July 2008

The Leith Rules Golf Society return match with Bruntsfield Short Hole overturned the "tradition" that the visiting team was always victorious, as BSHGC ran out winners by 3 matches to 1.

This year the match was over 27 holes, with our hosts giving us 5 holes of an advantage in each match, given the very specialist nature of the course.

The results were .....

Ken Gordon & Eugene Bradley were all square with Steven Doyle & David Rintoul

Douglas Foulis & Hugh Blackie lost 2 & 1 to Gordon Cochrane & William Wright

Brian Donkin & Graham Wilson were all square with Fraser Gordon & Alastair Stewart

Jim Maguire & Brian Graham lost 4 & 3 to Ian Hislop and Bob Linton
