Port Hopetoun relief, Lothian Road, Edinburgh, Scotland. Picture courtesy Roy Brown

Architect - Stewart Kaye (c. 1920)

Located above - 134, whole block. Panels form frieze on façade and corners running between second and third floor window. Corner and centre windows have panels also between 2nd and 3rd floors.

Metal rectangular reliefs form an interrupted frieze between piers of stone. Within each corrugated panel is a square depicting a worker or tree/landscape. Four trees and four trades are used in different combinations. Beneath the central windows above No.134 is a stone relief commemorating the site of Port Hopetoun. On left, standing farmer with horse and ploughman; on right, male worker with arms akimbo, a sailor, bargeboy beside lock lever waves below. Tree's represent four seasons; Workers represent mason, cooper (or porter), engineer and pilot (ship's).
