Sir Alexander Burnes, Scottish explorer and public official, was born. A noted explorer of Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, and southern Russia, he was author of 'Map of Central Asia' and 'Travels into Bokhara.'

Located at No.34 Home Street. At the top centre of doorway. (West side of Street) Made of Yellow Sandstone. Very Dirty but in good condition. Design 1897.
Mask of horned male face (satyr?) with wing like cheeks, protruding tongue and scrolled moustache horn-like eyebrows. Forms Keystone on central doorway of tenement block between Lochrin Place and Thornybauk.

Located above door of No.56 Home Street
Horned and moustached head with protruding tongue, framed by scroll around face. (Paired with one on No.34 - both central doorways in tenement blocks by same builder)
The sculpture design is dated 1897 and is made of Yellow Sandstone. It is in good condition and the detail is still sharp.
