The Inches Trophy

The Inches Trophy was first presented for play in 1904 by Sir Robert Kirk Inches, one of the co-founders of the well-known family business, Hamilton & Inches, jewellers and silvermakers, of George Street, Edinburgh. Sir Robert was much involved in the City's civic affairs and was Lord Provost from 1912 to 1915.

Play is by match play and the Championship, which is open to all amateur golfers over 14 years of age, is played over the 36-hole Short Hole Course which was established in 1890 at historic Bruntsfield Links where golf has been played continuously since the early 1400's. Since 1904 it has also been a tradition for Hamilton & Inches to present specially struck Gold, silver and bronze medals each year to the Champion, runner-up and beaten semi-finalists and the Club is indebted to the current owners of the Company for continuing this longstanding tradition.
