Derivation of Local Street Names |
Earl Grey Street Originally called and part of Lothian Road from 1788 to the early 1820s when its name was changed to Wellington Street in honour of the Duke of Wellington. In 1834 the name was changed to Earl Grey Street after Lord Grey, architect of the 1832 Parliamentary Reform Bill, who visited Edinburgh in that year.
The east side of the street was demolished in the 1970s for the purposes of widening the road.
