Police in Edinburgh are hunting vandals who caused up to £10,000 worth of damage by vandalising four parking ticket machines in the city centre.

The incidents happened sometime between 5pm on Tuesday (May 13th) and 8am on Wednesday.

Two machines in Douglas Crescent were vandalised, along with one in Eglington Crescent and one in Belford Road.

It appears that the machines were covered in some type of foam, before being burnt.

Each machine is worth £2500, and all will now have to be replaced.

A police spokesman said: 'This was a serious act of vandalism that resulted in £10,000 worth of damage, and we are extremely keen for information to help us trace whoever is responsible.

'Anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the west end area of the city centre overnight from Tuesday into Wednesday should contact police immediately.'
