Plaque unveiled in Cowgate on former site of printers
A PLAQUE was unveiled in the heart of the Old Town to mark 500 years of printing in Scotland. Councillor Donald Wilson unveiled the commemorative plaque in the Cowgate at 11.00am on Friday 4th April 2008, at the former site of Chepman and Myllar's printers, now St Ann's Community Centre.
They printed the first books in Scotland on April 4th, 1508. The only remaining copy known of the first dated book, The Complaint of the Black Knight by John Lydgate, is now held by the National Library of Scotland. Oldest printed Scottish book goes on display Previous Tollcross Articles
