Residents urged to give Bum statue steer in right direction

Replica statue was gifted to Capital by San Diego

EDINBURGH residents are being asked to help find a suitable location in the city for a memorial statue to San Diego’s most famous dog, Bum.

Arizona sculptor Jessica McCain's 300-pound bronze statue of Bum, San Diego's town dog, was installed in Gaslamp Quarter park in October

A new website with suggested locations for the statue has been set up, and organisers are asking as many residents as possible to log on and put forward their suggestions for the best spot.

The three-legged crossbreed is seen as an important link between the cities, as his story is similar to that of Greyfriars Bobby.

A replica of the famous statue of Bobby was gifted to the Californian city in 1990, and erected in the Gaslamp public park last year, next to the memorial of Bum.

In return, a replica statue of Bum was gifted to the Capital by San Diego as part of the long-running twinning partnership between the two cities.

It is hoped the statue will be able to sit close to the famous Bobby memorial.

The proposed sites can be seen at www.esdtwincities.blogspot.com.
