A PENSIONER has been conned out of a three-figure sum of money by a man who said he needed it for a sick relative.

Lothian and Borders Police press release [3]

The 86-year-old stopped to speak to a man in Gorgie who pulled up beside him in a blue car.

The fraudster convinced the pensioner to lead him to his home where he handed over some money, and then managed to coax him to a nearby cash machine where the victim gave him more cash.

The incident took place on March 14th.

Police are keen to trace any witnesses to the event, or anyone who might have information.

The suspect, who spoke with a foreign accent, is described as white, around 6ft 2ins, aged between 35 and 40, stocky build with short fair hair going bald at the top.

He was smartly dressed and carrying a dark-coloured holdall.

A police spokesman said: "We are very keen to trace this man, and we want anyone who recognises this description, or who may have been approached by him, to contact us."

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
