New road markings confuse drivers in run up to Shandwick Place closurePosted by : David on Mar 01, 2008 - 02:00 PM No signs were erected to indicate a change in priorities
NEW road markings on Lothian Road left many drivers confused before the major city centre diversions even got under way. The changes were made ahead of today's closure of Shandwick Place for trams roadworks. But yesterday there were already problems, after road painters set to work on Lothian Road's central lane on Thursday night. However, no road signs were erected to indicate a change in priorities, while other road markings seemed to support the original set-up. Bob and Janet Halliday, owners of nearby Xanders sandwich shop, said they were caught out on the way to work. Bob, 54, said: "I found myself going the wrong way down the middle lane, but I only realised at the last minute that the arrow was pointing in a different direction than usual." Janet, 49, added: "It's an accident waiting to happen." However, police said there were no accidents and tram company TIE promised to take another look at the lane markings last night. A spokesman said: "Rest assured if there is an issue with the road it will be rectified." Tram works heat up in the City Centre Previous Tollcross Articles Source: Edinburgh Evening News |
