800 runners already registered to take part in marathon

ORGANISERS of next month's Meadows Marathon say they hope the event will raise £100,000 for local charities.

Around 800 runners have already registered to take part in the run, which is being held for the second year in a row.

An oak tree will be planted in the run-up to the March 2nd half marathon, in what is hoped to become a tradition for future events on the Meadows.

The run will bring together people from across the country to raise money for charities, including HIV support charity Waverley Care, disability support group Capability Scotland and homelessness charity Four Square.

Last year's inaugural Meadows Marathon raised more than £10,000 for Sport Relief.
