Lothian and Borders Police press release

Police in Edinburgh are investigating an indecent assault that took place in the city centre over the weekend.

The incident happened at around 2am on Sunday (February 17th), near Deacon Brodies pub at the Lawnmarket.

The 22-year-old victim was assaulted by the suspect as she stood in a phone box. He then ran off in the direction of Hunter Square.

He is described as being dark-skinned, possibly Asian, around 20 to 30-years-old, with a shaved head and wearing a black top and blue jeans.

A police spokesman said: "The victim was extremely shaken as a result of this incident, which took place in an area of the city which would have been busy at this time of the morning.

"We are hoping that someone either witnessed what happened, or saw the suspect in the area at the time. Anyone with any information that can help us track down the suspect should contact police immediately."

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
