Scottish history should be an integral part of curriculum

Fiona Hyslop MSP
Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning [3]Saltire

Scottish history should be an integral part of the school curriculum, Education Secretary Fiona Hyslop said today.

In a newspaper article, she argues that children growing up in Scotland need to have 'a better understanding of how Scotland came to be'.

She referred to research that shows pupils often have the wrong impression of key events in Scottish history, and little awareness of internationally recognised figures like Adam Smith.

The Education Secretary said: "This is an unacceptable situation which must be reversed."
