Renewed bid for licence will be re-considered on Monday
AN upmarket hotel chain has vowed to open its £10 million development in time for the Festival – even if it fails to win an alcohol licence.

Hotel du Vin has gained the backing of business and tourism chiefs as it seeks to overturn a heavily-criticised decision by the city's licensing committee to block a licence.

Councillors refused to make an exception to the ban on new drinks licences in the Cowgate area, despite the fact the policy is aimed at cracking down on antisocial behaviour – not five-star hotel developments.

Hotel du Vin's renewed bid for a licence to sell alcohol will be re-considered by councillors on Monday 14th January.
