PC KYLIE BARNARD scooped the top prize as the Probationer of the Year for Lothian and Borders Police at a recent ceremony.

The young constable had already picked up the award as the top probationer for East Lothian before winning the title for the whole force.

PC Thomas Hopper, 27, community beat officer for Southside and Newington, took the probationer prize for Edinburgh.

Honourees in the awards are selected for their outstanding performance, high rates of solved crimes and consistently high marks in exams.
