A NEW police inspector has been appointed to oversee operations in the south of Edinburgh.

Sector inspector Glenn Milne has taken the reins for the Howdenhall area of the city, replacing former inspector Stephen Paul.

Inspector Milne joined Lothian and Borders Police in 1979 and has spent his service performing plain clothes, licensing, traffic enforcement, CID inquiry teams and control room duties, as well as community beat duties in Morningside and Gorgie.

He has also worked as a sergeant in the Borders.
