Man Injured In Building Collapse, Edinburgh

A workman received minor injuries after part of a building collapsed in central Edinburgh yesterday (Monday).

The incident happened at 11.40am in the West Port area of the city at the old Post Office headquarters.

Emergency services were called to the building, which is curently under demolition, after receiving reports that a floor had collapsed.

Three workmen escaped unscathed and one man was given a check up for minor injuries by ambulance staff that attended the scene.

A police spokeswoman said: "Lady Lawson Street was sealed off for safety reasons and to allow access to building control experts and structural engineers.

"Fortuntely only one man was injured and he did not need to go to hospital."

It is expected that the Health and Safety Executive will carry out an investigation into what happened.

Lady Lawson Street still remains closed.
