Author and co-founder says he was ejected in 1964

A FORMER artistic director of Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre has attacked claims the theatre was founded by the late Jim Haynes.

Original Traverse Theatre

Author and co-founder of the theatre, Terry Lane, says that after he was ejected from the theatre company in 1964, his name was removed from the theatre's records. "Everything you ever read about the starting of the Traverse was that the late Jim Haynes did it. And he didn't – he was in America," Mr Lane said.

"It was said I learnt my craft at his knee [Jim Haynes]. It was a disgraceful piece of slander. I had a good 20 years of theatre experience behind me."
