    Young woman assaulted walking home

Police are appealing for witnesses after a young woman was assaulted in Edinburgh on Sunday (October 28th).

The assault happened at around 10.30pm, as the 22-year-old victim was walking home on Whitehouse Loan.

She turned onto a small path leading into Bruntsfield Links, and was grabbed from behind by the male suspect.

The woman screamed, alerting two men who were walking in Bruntsfield Place.

They rushed to her aid, causing the suspect to let her go and run off towards the Meadows. He is described as being between 5ft 8ins and 6ft tall, with a medium build.

A police spokesman said: 'We are obviously very concerned at the manner in which this young woman was assaulted, and we are anxious to track down the man responsible.

'We are particularly keen to speak to the two men who rushed to her aid, as they may hold vital information to assist our enquiries.

'Similarly, anyone else who witnessed the incident, or noticed anyone behaving suspiciously in the area at the time, should get in touch immediately.'
