Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault on a 30-year-old man in Edinburgh city centre.

The victim was found by a passer-by in Brougham Street, at around 2.50am on Sunday September 30. He had suffered extensive injuries, and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The suspect is described as male, 5ft 8ins, stocky build, with tattoos, and wearing a black t-shirt.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: 'This was a serious assault where the victim suffered extensive injuries, and we are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident.'
