Edinburgh elects new Lord Provost

    He is a respected and well-liked member of the Council

Cllr Grubb has served as a Councillor since 1999 in Queensferry ward and was recently re-elected in the Almond ward.

He is a respected and well-liked member of the Council and is held in high regard in the community following many years as a church minister.

On his appointment, Cllr George Grubb said: “There is no other city in the world like Edinburgh and it will be an honour to serve it as Lord Provost.

“I am looking forward to duties of Lord Provost, including being the civic face of Edinburgh. My aim is to Chair the Council in an even-handed and disciplined way and I looking forward to meeting with various groups and organisations and welcoming visitors to the city.”

Born in Edinburgh 1935

James Gillespie’s Boys School and Royal High School

Scottish Schools Junior ˝ mile Champion 1954; Royal High School ˝ mile record holder to this day!

National Service in Royal Army Ordinance Corps for two years

Ordained Minister in 1962 in Stoke-on-Trent

Squadron Leader Chaplain in Royal Air Force 1962-70; served in Cosford then three years in Nicosia, Cyprus (during that time touring Tehran, Aidan, Malta and Tripoli)

Parish Minister at Craigsbank Parish Church 1971 until recently

Pastoral Studies at Edinburgh University 1971 (Gold medallist in Criminology)

BA from Open University 1974

BD from Edinburgh University 1978

B Phil from Open University 1983

D Min from San Francisco Theological Seminary 1993

Served on various Committees of the Edinburgh Presbytery and was Moderator

Served as Minister in residence at Eden Seminary in St Louis, USA

During one sabbatical leave went to the United Theological College in Zambia.

Married Liz in 1960

One son Rhoderick and one daughter Mhairi.

Six grandchildren, Kathryn, Andrew, Grant, Stuart, Mhairi and Moray.

Elected as Councillor for Queensferry in 1999

Chairperson of the Liberal Democrat Group 2000-2007

Hobbies: jogging, running, reading and family
