Police are warning the public to be wary of the dangers posed by exposed electricity cables, after a sub-station was vandalised in Edinburgh.

The site in East Princes Street Gardens was discovered to have its doors destroyed, exposing high voltage cables and points within.

The damage is believed to have been done over the weekend of August 4-5, but was not reported to police until Saturday (August 11th).

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: 'The exposure of high-voltage cables is a matter of extreme concern, not least because of the dangers it poses to children and passers-by, particularly at this busy time of year.

'We would urge anyone who comes across any exposed cables to report the matter to police immediately.

'We would also like anyone who has any information that can lead us to whoever is responsible for this vandalism, to get in touch.'

In an unrelated incident, a 17-year-old man has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal for damaging an electricity sub-station in Moredunvale Way, Edinburgh, last month. Enquiries are ongoing to trace other suspects.
