Scotland have won the Homeless World Cup with a 9-3 victory over Poland.

The final of this year's competition took place at a temporary stadium in the main square of Copenhagen in Denmark.

Scottish captain Paul Smith said he was thrilled with the result and described the skill level as "exceptional".

The event, which was first held in 2003, brings together teams from around the globe. About 500 players from 48 countries took part this year.

The event aims to help people recover from homelessness by generating self-confidence, a feeling of belonging and enhanced self-esteem.

Scottish coach David Duke said: "After changing my own life through football and the Homeless World Cup it is just great that I can help others do the same. To take Scotland to victory is just superb."
