Affordable homes first on the list...

THE first homes in a £200 million regeneration of Fountainbridge are set to built on the former brewery site.

Under the plans, expected to get the go-ahead from councillors on Wednesday, a six-storey block of flats would be created by a separate block of affordable homes.

The proposals show the first stage of housing for the new development, which will eventually see around 650 homes, as well as 160,000sq ft of office space and a hotel or student flats complex.

The scheme, which will see both sides of the former Fountain brewery site on Fountainbridge redeveloped, will create a new district called Springside.

In a report to councillors, head of planning Alan Henderson, said the development would provide a "high-quality townscape that is typically Edinburgh but with an exciting contemporary twist".

When developers unveiled new images of how the area will look, local boy made good Sir Sean Connery said it would provide local people with a neighbourhood they "deserve" and can "be proud of".
