The 20-year-old female victim was walking along Melville Drive, near the junction with Marchmont Road at around 00:30am, when two men approached her from behind.

She was grabbed by her arm, punched in the face and dragged to the ground where she was punched again and they then stole her purse, which included a small amount of cash.

The two men then ran off towards the Tollcross area.

Both men are described as white, stocky build, around 6ft tall, one had blond spiky hair, the other dark chin length hair and are aged between 18 and 20 years old. The male with the dark hair wore a black short-sleeved T-Shirt.

A police spokesman said: "We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the assault, or saw these two men in the area or running off towards Tollcross."
