The market, which will take place in Castle Street, will include Parma ham, mozzarella and olives. The event follows on from a successful French market.

Organisers Edinburgh City Centre Management are also hosting the Taste of Edinburgh festival later in the month.

Based at the Meadows, the event will host 20 of the city's top restaurants, including Michelin-starred Martin Wishart and Forth Floor at Harvey Nichols.

The Italian market will run from Thursday, May 22 to Sunday, May 25, between 10am and 7pm.
