Today in History

1747: American naval hero John Paul Jones was born in Kirkcudbrightshire on the south-west coast of Scotland. A skilled naval commander, Jones made his mark on history by the capture of the Royal Navy vessel Serapis in 1779, which was one of the earliest victories that the Americans achieved over their British opponents.

Mary King’s Close is saturated with fascinating and emotional stories of human life throughout the centuries.

Supernatural History Tours
The Real Mary Kings Close

Recent sightings by visitors and members of staff include; a merchant who appears to hover below the 'plague room' window where a staircase was once; a young boy standing at the end of the close, and an unpleasant dark presence!

To explore this darker side, we are delighted to announce the return of Supernatural History Tours to the Real Mary King's Close, examining some of the urban myths and legends associated with this unique site as well as recounting details of sightings on the Close.

The tours run every Saturday night during November - March 2008 from 6pm to 9pm.

Prebooking is strongly recommended - bookings can be made by calling 08702 430 160.
