The foundation stone of the Edinburgh Central Library on George IV Bridge was laid by Andrew Carnegie. Edinburgh has had a strong literary tradition throughout history and became the world's first UNESCO City of Literature in 2004.

Plans submitted to turn bookmaker into bistro restaurant
A FORMER city bookmakers is set to be turned into a new restaurant. Developer Forum-Euro Trading has submitted plans to the council which would see the former Victor Gold bookmakers, on Bread Street, transformed into a new bistro restaurant. Under the scheme, the frontage of the building would also be restored and cleaned. Previous Tollcross Articles
